Alain Marion
1938 – 1998

Photographs in this section taken at the
Académie Internationale d'Eté,Villa Paradiso, Cimiez,
Nice, France, summer, 1970

Alain Marion was a student of Joseph Rampal at the Marseille Conservatoire. Joseph Rampal created three international soloists and teachers, his son Jean-Pierre, Maxence Larrieu, and Alain Marion.

After his tenure playing third flute at the Orchestre de Paris, in 1972 he became first flute at the Orchestre National de France at the ORTF (radio and television). With the desire to expand his musical horizon, in 1977, Marion joined Pierre Boulez's L'Ensemble InterContemporain at IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique). As a teacher, first and foremost in lessons was his insistant plea for greater personal expression.
